B + E

Car and Trailer

Rules affecting driving licenses changed on January 1st 1997. The rules mainly affect new Drivers passing a car – driving test after that date, but are anything but easy to understand. The questions below should help you answer any queries you may have. To be really accurate you should check with the relevant Government bodies listed below for absolute clarification.

If your combination goes over 3.5 tonnes the driver will need category B+E as a minimum.

With B+E on your license, your vehicle and trailer can be over 3.5 tonnes. To work out how heavy you will need to find the manual or the Vehicle Identification Plate.

If the driver has only category B on their licence they will need to take a test in a B+E combination if they need to drive this type of Vehicle.

How long will it take to train a driver to B+E?
All drivers are different – some will learn quickly, others may take longer, we would recommend an assessment prior to training to determine the ideal course length – most drivers with car driving experience should be up to test.

Do I have to take a theory test for category B+E?
Fortunately no.

Lessons
Lesson are 4 hours long, the first lesson will also count as an assessment as to how long it will take to train to the required DSA standard.
Test fee £105.00 subject to change.

Please Note :  we can only provide this service with your own vehicle and trailer.

In short, this legislation covers’ all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury’. In the part covering scaffold towers, the HSE state ‘ as an employer, you must ensure Scaffold towers are erected by trained and competent people who are following a safe method of work.

And aside from the safety element, the traing is worth the effort to arrange now for we are finding more and more companies asking us to provide training after they have found themselves unable to work on site because their operatives did not already have the training.

The course

Most courses start between 8 and 9am and finish approximately at 3 – 3.30pm. this includes a break for lunch. The course follows a strict agenda as set by NPDAS and includes both theoretical practical elements. A full agenda is also attached.
